Cogitator — an Imperial / Mechanicum computational engine. Cogitators range from desk-mounted clerical units to cathedral-sized installation clusters running the affairs of forge worlds. A Cogitator is not the same kind of thing as a Dark-Age computer: by Mechanicum doctrine, a Cogitator’s processing is an act of ritual, not mere logic. Its outputs are oracular as well as computational, and it requires the attendance of a priest to function in good order.

A Cogitator that produces unreliable output is treated as a wrathful Machine Spirit before it is treated as a faulty machine.
