Summary
Heavy-weapons variant of the Kataphron Battle Servitor — a tracked Cult Mechanicus war-platform armed with heavy grav-cannon or plasma culverin to reduce its targets to molten sludge.
Lore
The Kataphron Destroyer is one of two principal patterns of the Kataphron heavy battle-servitor employed by the Kataphron Battle Servitors of the Cult Mechanicus, the other being the close-assault Breacher. Where the Breacher exists to crack open fortifications, the Destroyer exists to erase what stands behind them.
A Destroyer is a once-human brain wedded to a tracked combat chassis and a pair of mechadendrite-mounted heavy weapons, its higher cognition stripped away and replaced with targeting cogitators wired directly into its augmetic optics. It is, in the words of the Cult, nothing more than a living weapon, wielded by Tech-Priests to further the data-hungry march of the Machine God’s chosen emissaries.
Destroyers form part of the Servitor Maniples that march at the heart of a Cult Mechanicus battle congregation, providing the heavy fire that lesser cohorts of Skitarii Vanguard and Skitarii Rangers cannot bring to bear. Where they walk, the Tech-Priest overseers expect scorched earth — nothing left of the target but molten sludge and the data-pict of its destruction.
Doctrine
The Destroyer pattern is a doctrinal answer to a single question: how does the Cult Mechanicus reduce a heavy target without committing a Knight, an Onager, or a Kastelan? The Destroyer is the ranged-erasure tier — mid-line, durable, and pitilessly accurate.
- Sentinel Directives. Like all Kataphrons, Destroyers stand sentinel for the Cult Mechanicus battle-line; their targeting cogitators react to charges with directed Overwatch, hits scored on unmodified rolls of 5+.
- Doctrina Imperatives. They draw the same Cult Mechanicus combat doctrines as their kin, allowing the Tech-Priest overseer to dial them between defensive Conqueror and offensive Protector cant each battle round.
- Servitor obedience. A Destroyer cannot self-task. Its weapon-arms slave to the closest Tech-Priest’s noospheric command-stream; cut the link and it stands inert until reassigned.
Armament
A unit of Kataphron Destroyers fields three to six models on 60mm tracked chassis, each carrying one heavy weapon-arm and one secondary weapon-arm:
- Heavy grav-cannon — the default. A shoulder-yoked graviton projector that can flatten even the wraithbone ghost constructs of the Asuryani in a single crushing solar second, leaving its target stunned, crippled, or crushed beneath its own exponentially increased mass into an oozing disc of biometallic waste.
- Kataphron plasma culverin — the Ryza-pattern alternative. A short-ranged, high-cyclic plasma weapon: Plasma Culverins sacrifice the range of their cannon pattern equivalents in exchange for a higher rate of fire. Only Adepts of Ryza in particular consider its scars on wielder and war zone quite normal.
- Phosphor blaster — the secondary phosphor-light weapon, mounted on the off-arm; may instead carry a cognis flamer for closer-quarters refusal.
- Heavy mechadendrites and tracked chassis — the Destroyer is INFANTRY by classification but moves on a sealed tracked carriage, granting it a stability platform from which to fire its heaviest pattern weapons without recoil-displacement.
