The Collegia Titanica, more rarely styled the Adeptus Titanicus (a contraction of Adeptus Mechanicus Collegia Titanica), is the division of the Cult Mechanicus that crews and commands the Titans — bipedal God-Engines that are the heaviest land war-machines of the Imperium. It is the chief military arm of the Adeptus Mechanicus and answers, by virtue of the Mechanicus’s autonomy in the wider Imperium, only to the Tech-Priest hierarchy.
The Collegia traces itself to the Age of Strife, when civil war split Mars — Forge Primus as debased cults swept the Red Planet. Three Orders of mighty war-machines — the Triad Ferrum Morgulus — were forged to break the hereteks, and from that founding the institution of the Titan Legions descends.
Princeps and Maniple
Each Titan Legion is divided into Maniples, the basic tactical formation, generally of about five Titans. A Maniple is commanded by a Princeps Seniores (High Gothic for senior princeps), who dictates its strategic and tactical posture; the Princeps’s personality shapes how the Maniple hunts and fights.
Many Maniple compositions exist, but the most common pattern is the Axiom: a Warlord-class Titan as command engine, a pair of Reavers in support, and two Warhounds running ahead as scouts. The Princeps interfaces with the God-Machine through the Throne Mechanicum of his engine, his consciousness joined to the Machine Spirit of the Titan.
Titan Classes
The principal Titan classes the Collegia fields are the scout-pattern Warhound, the medium Reaver, the dominant battle-engine Warlord, and the city-killing Imperator. Each is a sanctified war-machine in its own right, served by a crew of Princeps, Moderati, Steersmen and Tech-Priest enginseers, and each carries a name and a battle-honour roll across millennia of service.
Horus Heresy
During the Horus Heresy, part of the Collegia turned against the Imperium alongside almost half of the Mechanicum, and Traitor Titan Legions took part in the Siege of the Imperial Palace. The greatest Titan engagement of the war was the campaign of Beta-Garmon — the Titandeath — the last major clash before Horus reached Terra. At the rebellion’s defeat the surviving Traitor engines were driven into the Eye of Terror, where they persist as part of the Dark Mechanicum.
