A Magos Dominus (also rendered as Tech-Priest Dominus; feminine Magos Domina) is a senior Tech-Priest of the Adeptus Mechanicus elevated to military command. Where ordinary Magi pursue knowledge in forge, laboratory, or vault, the Dominus pursues it on the field of war — leading Battle Congregations of Skitarii, Kataphron Battle Servitors, and the cortex-automata of the Legio Cybernetica.
The rank is ancient. During the Horus Heresy, the Dominus held the dread right to create and control the war-robots of the Legio Cybernetica, a sect of the Priesthood of Mars — Forge Primus entrusted with that lethal craft. In the millennia since, the title has broadened — a Dominus may also lead Electro-Priests and Kataphron cohorts as part of the Mechanicus’ Battle Congregations.
The title escalates: a senior Dominus may rise to Archmagos Dominus, as borne by Belisarius Cawl, a ten-thousand-year-old archmagos who gathers Skitarii Legions and maniples of Cybernetica beneath his standard.
Doctrine
The Dominus is the bridge between the laboratorium and the line of battle. Where the cogitations of a forge-Magos may dwell on a single calculus for centuries, the Dominus thinks in trajectories — bullet arcs, las-pack capacities, optimal artillery solutions — flooding their cybernetic frame with battlefield telemetry and issuing fire commands as litany.
Doctrinally, two duties define them: command of military forces in the Omnissiah‘s name, and the advancement of the Imperium’s military technology. Both flow from the same hunger — to recover, refine, and deploy the war-craft of the Dark Age of Technology. Their lifespans, prolonged by arcane science and progressive cybernetic conversion, are spent in pursuit of that recovery.
