Summary

Skitarii electric-discharge firearms patterned after Martian flintlocks, firing servitor-bullets that burn targets out from the inside.

Lore

Galvanic Weapons are the signature electric-discharge firearms of the Skitarii, most closely associated with the Skitarii Ranger. Their outward form deliberately echoes the hunting flintlocks of Mars’ distant colonial past — polished wooden stocks and ornate curlicues that recall the sandy seas of the red desert — while concealing weapon tech of considerably higher order. The current pattern is the Mark IV Arkhan, hand-crafted by adepts of Mars — Forge Primus and issued in two principal forms: the galvanic rifle for Rangers and the shorter-ranged galvanic carbine for close-support cohorts.

Galvanic weaponry sits in the same archeotech lineage as Volkite Weapons and Phosphor Weapons — esoteric energetic principles preserved by the Cult Mechanicus from earlier ages — but where volkite delivers thermal annihilation and phosphor a chemical fire of light, galvanic ordnance kills by induced electrical discharge keyed to the target itself.

Pattern and Function

The galvanic rifle and carbine fire servitor-bullets: each round contains a minute machine-spirit and galvanic cell. When the projectile strikes home, the cell triggers a feedback cascade in the target’s own bio-electrical and kinetic potential, causing that potential energy to burn out in a killing blast of electric force. The bullet’s embedded servitor can subtly adjust its trajectory in flight — a small but doctrinally significant marriage of servitor-craft and ballistics.

The rifle is therefore a precision tool rather than a saturation weapon: a Skitarii Ranger marks a single foe and that foe is consumed from within. Output can be amplified externally — a Tech-Priest Manipulus carries a colossal galvanic cell whose tendrils of Motive Force increase the discharge yield of every galvanic weapon in the surrounding cohort.

In Battle

On the battlefield the galvanic register is unmistakable: the thump and crackle of disciplined volleys advancing in lockstep with the cohort. Galvanic fire favours the long, patient kill — the Ranger’s role of hunter and scout — over the suppressive radium hail of the Skitarii Vanguard. Maniples of the original equatorial crossings of Mars carried only galvanic rifles, and that lineage of expeditionary marksmanship persists in the Battle Maniples of the late M41.
